About the Author

Hu Huiyun is a veteran researcher on Chinese couplets. Inspired by the Tai Chi philosophy, he has been studying in the field of Chinese couplets since 1960s. He has published many books on this subject, including Chinese Couplets: A Introduction and Collection. Born in Henan Province, one of the cradles of Chinese civilization, he is also engaged in researching the history of his hometown, Zhenping County. He was the chief compiler of the book A General History of Zhenping County, which won the Social Science Award of Henan Province. His research revealed that Zhenping County was the birthplace of Jiang Shang, a famous ancient Chinese military strategist lived in 3,000 years ago. The research won him considerable praise.

About the Translator

Wang Jinghui is Professor of Comparative Literature and Cultural studies. She is the deputy director of Australian Studies Centre, and the head of Discipline Group of World Literature and Cultural Studies at the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, School of Humanities, Tsinghua University, P. R. China. Her research interest is literary theory, English literature, and ancient Chinese philosophy.
