Considered one of ancient China's key achievements for its wealth of information on medicine, mineralogy, botany, zoology, and natural science, Compendium of Materia Medica covers the long period between remote antiquity and the Ming dynasty when the book was first published in 1593.
As early as the 17th century, Compendium of Materia Medica was introduced through translations to other countries in Asia, Europe and America as an essential work for the study of Chinese medical science, and ancient Chinese science, technology, culture and history. However, with the exception of a complete Japanese translation published in Japan in the 1970s, only parts of the Compendium (mainly to do with pharmacological therapeutics) have been translated. The more difficult sections about history, culture and science have never been translated; only abridged versions were available in the West.
This is first full English translation of the entire Compendium of Materia Medica. It is a careful rendition of the original text and explanatory notes place the contents in the context of modern scientific research.

The State Standard for the Location of Acupoints presents a thorough and accurate location of the points of the 14 meridians and a part of the extra points. More than 40 well-known specialists through the country have taken part in the research for working out this standard. They are clinical acupuncture experts, medical literature experts, acupuncture anatomists and basic theory experts. Most of them are experts of traditional Chinese medicine, but some are experts of Western medicine and experts of traditional Chinese medicine integrated with Western medicine. Some have been working in clinical practice, teaching and scientific research, and others are administrative cadres. Those who have engaged in this research are all the acupuncture experts and scholars with great attainments and profound knowledge. Therefore, this standard represents the state level in this field.
This state standard is approved by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and will go into effect as of January, 1991. By then, all the units relating to medical treatment of acupuncture, teaching and scientific research throughout China must follow this standard strictly under government supervision.
The acupuncture nomenclature in this state standard is based on the Standard Acupuncture Nomenclature appraised and approved by the WHO Scientific Working Group to Adopt a Standard International Acupuncture Nomenclature.

Historical records tell us acupuncture-moxibustion therapy has existed for more than 2000 years. Through the ages, Chinese practitioners have enriched and perfected it. Chinese acu-moxi therapy embodies the theoretical foundations of Chinese medicine: the theory of yin-yang, the five elements, zang-fu, channels and collaterals, qi, body fluid, aetiology and pathology, diagnosis, differentiation of syndromes, acupoints, techniques of acupuncture and moxibustion, and clinical application.
As well as serving as an introductory text for those embarking on a formal study of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), this book will be of interest to the general reader who desires a greater understanding of this ancient therapy.

According to the annals of Yanqingquan, there are nearly 100 sets of routines ranging from easy and elementary to difficult and advanced, and performed with and without weapons. Six of the routines representing the characters of this school have been introduced in two books: Yangqingquan I & Yangqingquan II, with action photographs of Chen Fengqi, the fifth direct descendant of Yangqingquan's disseminator, and his grandson Chen Jingyu in duet. The latter also poses for the solo routines.
This volume comprises the text and photo illustrations on three forms of Yangqingquan: mizongquan, mianzhangquan, and zhaikouzi.
