About the Author

Xu Xiutang has been engaged in the creation of violet sand craft for nearly 50 years. Known as the Great Master of Chinese Arts and Crafts, he is now a member of the Chinese Artists Association, a member of the Ceramic Art Committee of Chinese Artists Association, Chairman of Violet Sand Craft Professional Committee of Chinese Arts and Crafts Institute and visiting professor at Jiangnan University and Wuxi Institute of Arts and Technology. He has published more than 10 professional books and several papers on violet sand craft. His violet sand works have won National Awards several times. Some of his works are stored by many museums at home and abroad, including the British Museum, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium and Shanghai Museum. From 1990 to 2013, he’s held four personal violet sand craft shows.

About the Translator

Sun Haiqin, born in Shaoxing, China, is a PhD in translation studies with research focus on interpreting theory and translation pedagogy, a translator and conference interpreter of Chinese and English, and a university lecturer. Sun got the Conference Interpreter Certificate co-signed by senior interpreters of the United Nations, the European Union and Shanghai International Studies University (SHISU) in 2011. For more than a decade, she has been providing interpreting and translating service for international events. From 2003 to 2012, she was a teacher in Zhejiang Normal University. Since 2013, she has been teaching in the Graduate Institute of Interpreting and Translation of SHISU, where she also got her master’s and doctoral degree in 2006 and 2012.
