一、《北京文物精粹大系》石雕卷基本上按照年代顺序编排，情况不明的，列在相关朝代之后。个别石雕考虑成组石雕群的完整性，在时间顺序上前后有所变动。图录中选录新石器时代、汉、北朝、隋、唐、辽、金、元、明、清、民国时期的石雕精品150余件。

二、选编标准以北京地区范围内各博物馆、文物管理所、文物保护单位内所藏石雕文物为主，辅有部分散存的石雕，酌收其中具有代表性及历史、艺术价值的石雕精品。
三、卷首有《北京地区石雕艺术》一文作为概述，图版有随文说明和附录简介。对于石雕文物的名称、年代、原存地和现存地均有介绍，部分还有流传经过和相关内容的叙述。
四、有关石雕名称，均以文物单位认定的学名为准，有些同类型石雕为区别起见，冠以地名、年代或人名、序号。

The abundant and valuable cultural relics of Beijing are an important component of China’s cultural heritage, but for many years, these treasures can be seen only in museums or at some exhibitions.
