About the Book

The Glove Puppetry Show in China introduces the southern school of the glove puppetry. By reading the book, we may look into a world of fantasy, in which we can appreciate an old art of exquisite singing, speaking and dazzling puppet shows. With the long history of its development, Jinjiang glove puppetry was listed in the first batch of the state-level intangible cultural heritage in June 2006 and the Jinjiang Glove Puppetry Troupe was designated as the state-level heritage organization to protect and uphold the art. In the modern world, the fantastic art is facing great challenges as well as great chances. The use of advanced technology helps to attract more audience while fewer professionals are willing to dedicate to this art, which may lead to the extinction the art. The book consists of 8 chapters, including the origin and development, puppet’s making, traditional dramas, the spoken parts, music and finger skills, puppeteers and performance rules, innovation and reforms, and so on.
