Stranger than Fiction being the collection of articles has grown mainly out of the UGC Major Research Project “Image of Islam and Muslims in English Literature”. It seeks to identify and comment upon the representation of Islam/Muslims in select literary texts, ranging from Beckford’s Vathek, E.M. Forster’s A Passage to India, pulp fiction, post-Independence Indian Fiction in English, to Khushwant Singh’s and Gurcharan Oas’s works. While undertaking socio-political reading of the works under study it attempts at unraveling the main contours of the rich, though so far unacknowledged, repository of information on the subject.
