The techniques of traditional Yang-style taiji pushing hands can be described in five key words: tumble, strike, capture, seize, and throw. This set of pushing hands was passed on by Master Hu Xingzhai, the disciple of Yang Jianhou who was the second generation of Yang-style taiji.

The core of four-sides hand with fixed step is three steps and four ways of using force on the basis of double pushing hands. The three steps are: stepping forward, stepping backward, stepping forward and backward. The four techniques of using force are: warding-off, rubbing, pressing forward, and pushing.
